Today's workshop provided me with some new ideas for seed strategies. It also gave me a chance to practice more positive self talk. Our last activity was making a picture with coloured or blank transparencies and a b&w photo of me. Before the workshop I decided that my self talk during the session would be "I am": I am able to create whatever I want. I no longer have to copy something. AND IT WORKED!!! I didn't worry about what I can't do or what I should be doing. Because my attitude had changed I was able to relax and enjoy the creative process. I actually like what I made today.
If you are like me and need to change your self talk, aka Vygotsky's internalization, I recommend reading this book from Willow's collection: "Self-Talk for Teachers and Students: Metacognitive Startegies for Personal and Classroom Use", Brenda H. Manning and Beverly D. Payne1996, Allyn and Bacon.

That is awesome Nicola, It seemed like you were at peace with yourself during the art gallery trip, kinda off in your own happy place! And what you created was just right for you, and it worked to...perhaps a little batty though!
Hi Nicola. I understand the power of self-talk as I have been actively using for the last 9 years. You are right it does work! If it didn't I wouldn't be in this class with you!
And this is why I think you're fantastic... you are a very positive person and I enjoy that about you.
So, keep on keepin' on with the happiness!
here's to being batty and happy!!
Nice to show that you have read the comments, Nicola. I agree with Judy...shifting your self-talk is the ultimate self-leadership task and it can have great results. You've inspired me to remember that you can resolve to have a certain kind of self-talk on a specific occasion.
